Andrea Langman is a local artist who has been living in the lowcountry for the last five years. After traveling to the Charleston area for over twenty years, she and her family jumped at the opportunity to become residents the first chance they got. The wonderful climate and beautiful landscape of the lowcountry is a huge draw to make the move. Andrea knew that Charleston would lend to a never ending supply of creative inspiration that would catapult her art to the next level.
Born to be an artist, one of Andrea’s earliest memories was creating a red crayon masterpiece on her bedroom wall during naptime, at the tender age of four. Finding their child awake and using the wall as a canvas was not her parents ’ideal way for her to start her career, but Andrea still remembers the satisfaction she felt from filling up that empty space with her artwork. As she grew and moved beyond the crayon, she tried many mediums until settling on watercolor. Being a self-taught artist has not always been easy, but the most important part of her artistic journey has been the struggles and triumphs of learning a medium that has often been deemed one of the most difficult. For Andrea, there is nothing more exciting than watching a mix of water and pigment dance across the paper and for this reason she will continue to be a life- long learner and explorer of this medium.
After taking some time away from art to start a family, Andrea was called back to her passion for painting. She spent a few years honing her craft and when she was ready, she decided it was time to share her gift with others. For Andrea, a gift is not worth having unless it is shared. She has recently participated in The Arts and Artisans of the Lowcountry event at the Sandcastle on Kiawah Island and the Art and Wine Walk at Freshfield’s Village, both in South Carolina. When not participating in a show, you can find Andrea working on pet portraits for her wonderful clients here in the lowcountry and beyond. She was fortunate enough to fall into this type of commissioned work, which she enjoys immensely. There is nothing more joyful for her than being able to create a piece of artwork for someone that has priceless meaning to them. Recently, pet portraits, particularly those of the K-9 variety, are her most requested work. Andrea has also been privileged enough to paint family portraits as well. She is always up for a creative challenge and loves being asked to create special pieces of art for others. When Andrea is not painting a new masterpiece, you can find her spending time with her thirteen year old son, which of whom, is her greatest work to date.
